Internal/External Sinus Lift
Internal Sinus Lift
When an implant is placed in a premolar or molar location, the teeth are below the maxillary sinus cavity. For extra stability, on every implant placed by Biological Dentistry of Southern California in a premolar or molar location an internal sinus lift is performed at the minimum. This minimally invasive procedure is performed by adding bone graft material to the alveolar bone below the maxillary sinus in the implant site. This allows for maximum stability and optimal implant placement, giving the patient the highest chance of implant success.
External Sinus Lift
When the bone levels have decreased above a premolar or molar site and the treatment prescribed is an implant, sometimes extra bone is required to provide enough stability for the implant. In this case, an external sinus lift is required to add additional bone. Using minimally invasive surgical procedures and biological dental materials such as PRF, ozone, and biocompatible synthetic bone graft material, Biological Dentistry of Southern California will add bone above the implant site so an implant can be placed properly. The implant can either be placed on the same day, if the initial bone levels are high enough, or several months following the external sinus lift procedure once the bone has time to grow.
